Reality (a poem about dreams)

The world below lay dormant as my spirit flew on high to visit all those places we can see in our minds eye.

I saw a place I used to know from dreams when I was small. A cabin buried in the woods near a rainbow waterfall.

Before the door a woman stood. Her face was all aglow. She watched the progress of a man whose pace was very slow.

I realized, as he drew near, that this was me who stood, within the door to await the love I’d made in childhood.

I cried the tears of one renewed, for now I knew ‘tis true, that though I dreamt within my mind, my spirit truly flew.

When next I dream of things unknown, or seek for things I feel, in my heart I’ll know for sure these things are really real.

I believe that dreams reflect our true life desires and beliefs. When we dream, we seek that which we desire above all else and we seek to live that life though, in reality, we usually can’t for whatever reason. Dreams can be a wish, a hope, a desire, a belief, even a guide into what we really feel. When one dreams, one reaches for the stars and travels through time and space. When one dreams, one can seek beyond the bonds that reality creates to hold us down. When one dreams, one can feel freedom. Dreams are not only freedom, they are the life we wish to lead; the fears we need to conquer; the choices we felt we should have made; the wants we dare not share; the secret loves we bury within ourselves for fear of retaliation; even the hopes and wants that we refuse to admit to ourselves. Dreams open our eyes to who we really are while showing us our strengths and our weaknesses. Dreams make us face our fears and show us where we failed so we can learn from our mistakes. Dreams also show us where we could be if we worked harder.

Keep a notebook near your bed so you can record your dreams when you first wake up.

Ever had a dream that didn’t make sense? Could it have been a message your subconscious was sending you? Could your inner mind be trying to tell your outer mind something that you feel is very important? Dreams are not just what we seek or feel, but what we need to know and have, somehow, forgotten. Our subconscious talks to us in very weird ways and we often have trouble figuring out what message it is trying to send us. Dreams are a way for our subconscious to make the message clearer. If you have a dream, try writing down as many details about the dream as you can remember. Keep a notebook by your bed so you can write in it as soon as you wake up. After a day or two has gone by, try rereading what you wrote. Many times the message will scream out at you and you’ll be saying “oh yeah, I forgot about that”.

Here’s to happy dreams.
