Let this be the Happiest New Year ever!
65Can we improve our USA?
Are we strong enough? Absolutely!!!! We are the people. We are the ones who make this country what it is! We can make a difference! One person, doing something different, draws attention. Then someone else decides to be different and draws more attention. Another decides to be different and before long you have a majority. Let's build a majority!
Can we make the World better?
Absolutely!!! Everyone has the power to make a difference. No matter where you live and no matter what you have! Everyone has the power. All it takes is the spirit to fight for what we believe in and fight for the necessary changes! We can all do it!
During this past year (2011) the US economy has been difficult at best and horrid at worst. Unemployment has been extremely high (beyond depression I think) and more children than ever before are going to bed hungry and cold. It has been a record year for people filing for State Aid and unemployment benefits. The SNAPS program has been overwhelmed with requests and so has Social Security.
Yet, we still survive. We are still living. We are beginning to remember what family, giving, and love all mean. We, the People of the United States, yes we are strong! We are extremely adaptable! We are creative! We ARE Survivors! And we will make it through this tough economy and make a better life for ourselves!
How? Well, let’s look back during the depression. People had little food, jobs were scarce, unemployment was higher than it has ever been, and people had to struggle just to survive each day. Wow, I think that sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Granted, we live in a different society where different things are now the norm. Such as there are very few public telephones now because the majority of the population have cell phones of some type. And people communicate via e-mail and text messaging. Games are played electronically and television access can be done through the internet. Computers, once nothing more than novelty luxuries, are now necessary for everyday living. And curling up with a good book has taken on a new meaning with electronic books.
Now, with all of our new gadgets and our new concepts, are we better than we were? No, we are the same just more ‘electrified’. We are a creative race with intelligence and a strong desire to improve ourselves. Our race is never satisfied with what we have. We are always seeking bigger, better, faster, more powerful and more wondrous. That is why we will survive this economic slump just like we did the depression and all of the other times when things became difficult.
We need to have faith. I hear the question now: IN GOD? Well, we need to have faith in many things. Our religion is a big part of it, but we also need to have faith in ourselves, our children, and our future. Can we have faith in the government? Eventually, but I think we need to remind the government that they are supposed to be there to serve the people, not drain them while serving themselves. We have done it in the past and we need to do it again. By letting our representatives know how we feel, we can be certain that they vote with our desires in mind, not their own benefits.
We can make this a Happy New Year. In fact, we can make it the best New Year ever, but it will take work. Nothing is easy. Nothing is free. History has taught us that over and over again. We have to fight for what we want and struggle for what we need in order to appreciate what we have. Resting on our rumps while others do the work only means that they will get their wants and desires and we will have to settle for what comes our way. I don’t believe that we are that kind of species. Yes, there are some, I will admit, but the majority of us are willing to fight for what we want and need.
Let’s get out there and make a difference for the future; the future for us; the future for our children; and the future for our world. We can do it, we can make a difference by speaking out and letting those in charge know how we feel. We can change things and make this The Happiest New Year Ever!
